5.9 Earthquake Hits Virginia And Rocks NY, D.C., NC
5.9 Magnitude Quake Rocks East Coast
A 5.9 earthquake may be no big deal on the West Coast but here on the East side of America it caused a panic around 1:15 p.m. ET and lasted for about 30 to 45 seconds.
The quake was centered near Mineral, VA but was felt in Washington, New York City, Rhode Island and North Carolina. Government buildings in New York were evacuated and The Pentagon in D.C was evacuated as well.
Doug Kammerer, meteorlogist with the NBC affiliate in Washington, calls the tremor a "very big earthquake for our area."
11 million people have reportedly felt the shake but there has been no word of any injuries so far.
For some reason, we're waiting for a statement from President Obama who was playing golf when the quake went down.
