Eminem Lawsuit May Change The Industry Forever

Eminem Lawsuit May Result in Higher Royalties for Older Artists
F.B.T. Productions, the company that originally signed Eminem filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group that may help artists get more money from digital sales.
Em's original contract stated that individual songs sold online would count as a license rather than a sale.
A license would pay the artist 50 percent of the song while a sale would only relinquish 12 percent, which is what the Detroit rapper was being paid.
The Supreme Court ruled against the appeal filed by UMG since they lost the case last year and now what is estimated to be around a $20 million value in unpaid royalties shall increase to somewhere around $50 million within the next decade.

So what does this mean? It affects the artists that had contracts way before digital sales existed.
The language in that paperwork may only be granting some singers, rappers and musicians a sale royalty rate instead of a licensing one that would increase their income.
There are heavily downloaded songs that labels are benefiting from in today's declining record industry.
UMG most likely set off a warning for majors to take action before artists catch wind. Stay tuned.

Paris Hilton: "I Can't Stand Black Guys, It's Gross"

Paris Hilton: " I can't stand black guys. I would never touch one. It's gross."

Socialite Paris Hilton is catching flack today after comments she reportedly told a pop culture journalist have surfaced.
Journalist Neil Strauss is releasing his new book “Everyone Loves You When You're Dead: Journeys Into Fame and Madness” and in it, claims to have encountered the heiress when she was still a tee who recounted an incident with an unnamed Black actor.
Strauss said he was discussing several subjects with Hilton when she started talking about a guy she had been out with the previous evening.
Pointing to an unnamed actor in "Saving Private Ryan, Hilton was quoted as saying,
"We were making out, but then we went somewhere where it was bright and I saw that he was black and made an excuse and left. I can't stand black guys. I would never touch one. It's gross."

When Strauss asked Hilton,
"How black does a guy have to be?"

She reportedly answered,
"One percent is enough for me."
Since the comments have hit the internet, reps for Hilton have issued a statement saying,
“These allegations are absolutely untrue and ridiculous. We have sent these claims to Miss Hilton's lawyers to respond further. It's another example of someone making false claims for financial gain."

Hitlon was previously spotted cozying up to 50 Cent and Diddy.

Alligator found guarding weed plants worth 1.5 mil

HEMET, Calif. (KABC) -- A pot bust at a Hemet home yielded more than just marijuana to the surprise of narcotics agents.

A 4-foot-long, 55-pound American alligator was found in a bathing pool, guarding the more than 2,200 marijuana plants -- worth more than $1.5 million.

"If he were to bit somebody, yeah, he could do quite a bit of damage," said Joel Almquist, owner of Forever Wild Exotic Animal Sanctuary in Phelan, Calif.

That may be why the owner, John Nathan Donna, allegedly thought it would be a good idea to keep the pet gator as a sort of watchdog over his crop. The 29-year-old was arrested and charged for cultivation of marijuana and possession, both felonies. He was released Tuesday on $100,000 bail.

Almquist was called in to capture and remove the animal named Wally.

"This one here is absolutely beautiful. He's probably a little too well taken care of. He's absolutely perfect in every way and real mellow," he said of the alligator, which is believed to be about 5 or 6 years old.

It is illegal to own an alligator in California.

"One illegal activity kind of brings on more illegal activity. I've gotten several calls from sheriff's departments, police departments, what not, where there have been cobras in the houses, exotic cats in the houses," recalled Almquist.

Wally will be in the company of 16 other rescued gators. Almquist said keeping in line with the animal's claim to fame, Wally may be given a new name -- Marley for the famous reggae singer Bob Marley.

The alligator will now call Forever Wild is new home. The sanctuary is better known for its stock of exotic and wild cats.
