Ricky Romance (Raz B's Brother) Threatens Chris Brown & Omarion Over Twitter Beef With Raz B!

10 Trends Rappers Need To Leave Behind In 2010

In case you've gotten caught up in the hustle and bustle that is the holiday season, here's a friendly reminder from RapFix: 2010 is almost over!

That's right. In less than one week, we'll be ripping our 2010 Rosa Acosta calendars off the wall — what? Don't judge us! — and ringing in another new year that'll (hopefully!) be just as good, if not even better than this year. From the emergence of Drake and the newfound fame of Nicki Minaj to the reappearance of Eminem and the wild and wacky world of Kanye West, we've got to admit that 2010 was one of the better years in recent memory in terms of hip-hop music.

But that's not to say that everything was on point this year. Because while we certainly enjoyed most of what went on with rap music, there are a number of things that we hope rappers leave behind when the Snooki-ball drops on New Year's Eve. If the rappers out there are still looking to get us a gift, do a little addition by subtraction and make us happy by leaving these 10 trends behind in 2010. Thanks in advance!

1. Releasing your songs on specific days of the week

Why It Needs To Go: Because everyone isn't Kanye West! Initially, the G.O.O.D. Music founder created "G.O.O.D. Friday" to build up anticipation for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by dropping one new track every week. But other rappers soon latched onto the trend and before we knew it, we had "Mood Muzik Mondays" courtesy of Joe Budden, "Wu Wednesdays" courtesy of RZA and "Blue Fridays" courtesy of Lloyd Banks. Um, guys: Enough is enough! The point of the Rosa Acosta calendar is to look at her, not the busy schedule we've been to endure to keep up with every ... single ... new ... rap ... song dropping throughout the week.

2. Starting "beefs" with your fellow rappers on Twitter

Why It Needs To Go: Sigh. Have we really reached a time and place in hip-hop history where it's OK for the long-running feud between 50 Cent and Ja Rule to spill over onto Twitter? Well ... have we?!? If so, cancel our Twitter handle ASAP. Because back when Biggie asked, "What's beef?" we're pretty sure the answer he was looking for didn't come with a hashtag.

3. Sending your fans letters from jail

Why It Needs To Go: Lil Wayne using his time at Riker's Island to reconnect with his fans was acceptable. Sweet even. But now T.I.'s followed suit and written a handful of letters from behind bars to his fans and one thing seems clear: This trend is gonna continue if we don't put a stop to it now. So, listen up. If you're a rapper and you go to jail, please don't start a blog about it. And don't write letters about how much you miss your fans. Let's put that energy toward staying out of jail.

4. Blaming poor sales figures on your album being "under shipped" by your label

Why It Needs To Go: So, your album didn't do the numbers you thought it would. And now you're a Trending Topic on Twitter because of it. Tough luck. But rather than taking to the tweets or releasing a blog blaming your label for your poor sales, why not ask yourself if you did everything to make your album a hit? Why not — gasp — take some of the responsibility for your poor sales? In other words, why don't you stop making excuses? Just stop using the term "under shipped," please. It sounds ridiculous, especially when we just saw a stack of your albums at Best Buy.

5. Hopping on the same song as every other MC to get a mention on the rap blogs

Why It Needs To Go: Unless you're trying to help us answer that age-old question, "How many 'Black & Yellow' remixes does one rap fan need to hear before he throws his iPod out the window?" we suggest you stay away from rapping over Wiz Khalifa's instrumental. And any other instrumental that more than three other rappers have already used. Seriously. There are THOUSANDS of rap beats out there. Why rap over the same one?

6. Releasing a "trailer" for your new music video

Why It Needs To Go: Music videos are, at best — what — four or five minutes long? Do we really need a 30-second "trailer" to get us in the mood to watch it? Just put it out already.

7. Getting tattoos on your face

Why It Needs To Go: Tattoos on your forearms and sleeves to cover your biceps — that was cool. Then, you started tatting up your backs and your stomachs and your chests — and that was cool. Then, you moved your way up to your necks — and even that was cool (though, admittedly, a little creepy). But now? Well, you're putting ink all over your grill. You do realize you're gonna look ridiculous when you're 70 sporting a rap crew logo on your mug, right?

8. Sleeping with — even just allegedly — women who makes viral videos about her sexual encounters

Why It Needs To Go: We like to know everything about our favorite rap artists. Well, almost everything. So, your favorite food, favorite movie and favorite song? Cool. But your bedroom behavior and your sexting style? Keep those details behind closed doors by sharing them with classy ladies who'll promise to keep quiet.

9. Recording songs that incorporate well-known samples that are a little too well-known

Why It Needs To Go: No, we're not talking about throwing a Rick Ross line onto the hook of a song or remaking a classic hip-hop anthem or incorporating Busta Rhymes's "Rrrrrroaw, rrrrrrroaw, like a dungeon dragon!" from the classic A Tribe Called Quest posse cut "Scenario" onto your new song. We're talking about Just Blaze jacking Haddaway's "What Is Love?" for Eminem's "No Love" and Will.I.Am lifting The Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star" for Nicki Minaj's "Check It Out." We're coming dangerously close to people who aren't familiar with hip-hop making the "rappers are so uncreative!" arguments that plagued Puff Daddy (and the fam!) in the late 1990s and early 2000s. So borrow at your own risk.

10. Any use of the word "swag," including, but certainly not limited to, swagger, swagga, swagtastic, swaggerific, "Pretty Boy Swag" and ... oh, you get the point, right?

DMX Moved To Mental-Health Unit At Arizona State Prison Complex

Rapper Earl Simmons, better known as DMX, is housed in a mental-health unit at an Arizona State Prison Complex facility called Alhambra near 25th street and Van Buren.

DMX was sentenced to a year in jail (minus 113 days served) on December 16, after he pleaded guilty to violating the terms of his probation. At his sentencing, Judge Christine Mulleneaux told him she believes he has "an undiagnosed mental condition," possibly bi-polar disorder.

DMX's manager, Nakia Walker, wouldn't comment specifically on whether DMX might have a mental disorder, but she says she wasn't surprised when he was moved to a mental-health unit. The rapper himself always has refused to comment on speculation about his mental state. In 2001, he threatened to beat up writer William Shaw for asking about it in a Blender magazine interview. "Waaaay too personal," DMX said.

The embattled hip-hop star is incarcerated for the 13th time. His record includes more than 25 arrests across the nation, 11 felony convictions, and 15 misdemeanor convictions.

Arizona Department of Corrections files confirm that DMX was admitted to the Flamenco Mental Health Unit at Alhambra on December 20. According to Walker, he will not be allowed to have visitors for 30 days.

(AllHipHop News) Trick Daddy is the latest artist to run into trouble with the IRS, as the Miami rapper owes hundreds-of-thousands of dollars to the government.

According to the Detroit News, Trick Daddy owes the feds over $157,000 in back taxes for monies he earned as far back as 2002.

In addition to the tax troubles, Trick's $320,000 home in Miami was sold last October, after a bank foreclosed on it in May.

The government has placed several liens against the rapper, who recently released his autobiography Magic City: Trials of a Native Son.

Since then, rappers like Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Obie Trice, Method Man, Eve, DMX, Nas, Swizz Beatz, Doug E. Fresh, Mos Def, Beanie Sigel, Wyclef, MC Hammer, Lil Kim, Big Boi, Fat Joe, D12, Young Buck,  are among the rappers who owe the IRS since they began the unit several years ago.

T.I.'s New Prison Letter Thanks His Fans

T.I.’s new album No Mercy hit stores last week and debuted at number 4 on Billboard with 160,000 copies sold. While behind bars in Arkansas, he thanked his fans again for their continued support.

What up world? First off I’d like to thank everybody again for going out and supporting the “Hustle” yet again with “No Mercy” last week. I can’t say enough on how much I appreciate the support and all the positive feedback. I read so many tweets, letters, reviews and comments that spoke volumes to how much love was still out there and how much respect still exists for my art and my passion. I put so much of myself into what I do. I even read over the negative comments cuz’ that’s the kind of energy I feed off of to adjust, evolve and improve my craft until it manifests into the closest thing to perfection on the next go-round. I love hearing your opinions on what songs you like most for the next singles. We are taking all of them into consideration as we decide right now on which direction to head in. I know this seems like an unfortunate set of circumstances to endure for a career with so much potential but remember adversity builds character and character takes you places money can’t. I know what’s in store for me in the future so I ain’t trippin’ and neither should you. For now all my love and best wishes to you and yours for the holidays. Y’all hold it down out there and I’ll do the same in here. And continue to spread the word about “No Mercy” & Team T.I..

Mike Vick Gives His Fiance A Porsche At Birthday Bash

Michael Vick is definitely spending cash like a starting QB -- because the dude just handed over a fully loaded Porsche to his fiance at her birthday bash in Philadelphia ... TMZ has learned.

Sources inside the party tell us Vick's fiance, Kijafa Frink, celebrated her birthday with a private event at a Philly nightclub ... where guests feasted on filet mignon sliders, imported crab balls, and designer chicken wings (yeah, we don't get it either).

But here's the kicker -- when it was time to open gifts Vick whipped out a brand new Porsche Panamera! Yeah, he dropped $90k on a birthday gift. Baller.

LeBron James Censored From Jay-Z's 'Empire State Of Mind' On Cleveland Radio

The city of Cleveland certainly knows how to hold a grudge.

Following basketball superstar Lebron James' decision that he'd be "taking his talents" to South Beach and the Miami Heat, in what many Cavalier fans thought was a classless maneuver, a Cleveland radio station decided to take their gripe one step further.

On Jay-Zs ubiquitous hit "Empire State Of Mind," Ohio's 96.5 KISS FM radio station took aim at the burly now-Miami Heat power forward by editing his name from Jigga's track. The line, "[if] Jeezys paying LeBron, Im paying Dwayne Wade" is now missing the Akron, Ohio natives famous first name. Host Joel "Java" Murphy curiously explained the rationale behind the decision with Cleveland sports blog WFNY by saying that Lebrons name is damaging to Cleveland's ears.

"I was playing the song and realized that the word 'LeBron' is as offensive to some people as the Seven Words You Cant Say on the Radio,' " Java said. "So, I suggested to our programming department that we should treat the name 'LeBron' similarly."

"Lebron hate" has become a way of life in Cleveland but the hip-hop friendly hoops icon seemingly takes it all in stride.

In a recent matchup between 'Bron and his former Cavaliers, James and his new team, the Heat, responded in flawless fashion, routing Cleveland who were outgunned from the onset. And while the victory had to feel good, the loyal Ohio homeboy never took it personally.

"It was nothing personal for myself against the fans. It won't be, ever," James offered to USA Today after the game. "I understand their frustration."

Yo Gotti Surrenders To Memphis Authorities In Nightclub Shooting Case

Days after an arrest warrant was issued for Yo Gotti in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, the rapper is back in town and has surrendered to authorities.

The rapper (real name: Mario Mims) was sought after by Memphis Police in connection with a nightclub shooting that took place during Thanksgiving weekend.

Initial reports revealed that Gotti had been involved in an argument with local rival O.G. Boo Dirty at Memphis' Level Two nightclub on November 29th. The argument escalated, and minutes later, shots were fired in the club's parking lot, leaving five people injured.

Local media said arrest warrants were issued for nine individuals in connection with the incident, including both rappers.

At the time of the reports, Yo Gotti was out of town, but through his attorney Arthur Horne, he revealed that he planned to cooperate with authorities to clear him name.

On Monday night (December 13), Gotti arrived in Memphis and turned himself in, tweeting (@YoGottiKOM): "JUST MADE IT TO MEMPHIS.... TURNING MYSELF IN NOW!"

Gotti is being charged with aggravated riot, a felony charge that can carry a penalty of one to six years behind bars if convicted.

One of Gotti's attorneys told Memphis' paper The Commercial Appeal that the rapper is confident he'll be cleared in the case. "He is not an advocate of violence by any means," Murray Wells, an attorney in a Memphis firm representing the rapper, said. "At the end of the day we're confident his name is going to be cleared."

The paper says that 11 others face charges in the case, including OG Boo Dirty (real name: Lance Taylor) who faces a charge of inciting to riot, as well as aggravated riot.

At press time, it's unclear if Gotti is still behind bar, or if he's posted bond to be released.

Beanie Sigel Says Damon Dash Owes Him Millions

Earlier this week Philly rapper Beanie Sigel and radio personality Star put their personal differences aside to talk music, Kanye West, Damon Dash, and more on the Star & Bucwild Show on Philadelphia’s Power 100.3.

Shortly after Star mentioned Beanie’s loyalty to Damon Dash the rapper revealed that he has no loyalty to Dash and that he’s owed millions of dollars by him.

“I ain’t loyal to Dame. Dame owe me some money,” Beanie explained. “My own lawyer found about 11-million that Dame stole from me…He filing bankruptcy. I’ll spend a million dollars just to say a person owe me? I have a piece of paper that say he owe me some money. Who wants to go through that?”

Beanie also referred to Dash’s support during his legal problems as a “façade” and nothing more than “smoke and mirrors.”

Beanie didn’t have too much to say when asked about fellow rapper Kanye West, but had plenty to say about ex drug dealer Tommy Hill.

“It’s a known fact that he’s a rat. We was in the same jail, Fairton,” said Beanie when asked about Hill. “I was in the hole and he was on the other side in protective custody. He’s a rat.”

Ironically, Hill is scheduled to appear on the Star & Buc Wild Show tomorrow, December 15.
