Houston's Mayor Proclaims "Bun B Day"

Houston mayor Annise Parker and the accompanying City Council have declared Tuesday August 30 as "Bun B Day," according to a representative for the rapper.

The rapper will also receive a formal proclamation from the mayor, according to Isiah Carey of Fox 26 in Houston.

Bun B has been a leading force in the Southern Hip-Hop movement since the 90's but he's also known for his work in the community. He's volunteered his time and also teaches a course on religion and Hip-Hop at Rice University.

Bun is one half of the iconic rap group UGK with the late Pimp C and he has had great success as solo artist as well. Incidentally, he is a native of Port Arthur, Texas.

Bun B Day will take place at Houston's City Hall Tuesday August 30 at 1:30 pm. The meeting is open to the public.
