CRITICS NOT FEELING KANYE WEST NEW FASHION LINE

The rapper-turned-fashion designer complained that critics “just didn’t understand” his first Paris Fashion Week collection last fall. Apparently, they still aren’t impressed.

Despite packing the front row with celebs, including Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Kim Kardashian, Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, West was criticized for taking a little too much inspiration from his French style idols.

“Kanye West collection was so Givenchy-esque that it’s embarrassing that Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci was an expected guest,” Wall Street Journal fashion critic Christina Binkley said. “Ten points off for copying the smart guy sitting next to you.”

Others were turned off by West’s heavy use of exotic animal skins and furs, including crocodile, fox and a young lamb.

His leather pants were accused of a “poor fit” and his use of fur to create big-sleeved shrugs was “questionable.”

“When Joan Smalls closed the show, wearing an adhesive black gauze dress with a strip of alligator running up the front, it seemed as if Mr. West’s approach to making a dress was like a cook wrapping leftover turkey,” wrote New York Times fashion writer Eric Wilson.

Still, the critics were kinder than they were back in October, when West’s first show received scathing reviews.

The rapper was deemed not-ready-for Paris and lambasted for creating unflattering silhouettes and for lack of tailoring.

West, who had been taken aback by the harsh reviews, pleaded for another chance at the catwalk.
“This is my first collection. Please be easy. Please give me a chance to grow,” he wrote on his blog in October. “This is not some celebrity s--t.”
