Curren$y Sues Dame Dash For $1.5 Million

Curren$y and his hazy raps have dominated the mixtape landscape for the past few years. After a heavy independent grind ahead of his major label signing last year, the self-proclaimed “Hot Spitta” is suing his former associate Dame Dash, as the Roc-A-Fella Records honcho is reportedly selling Curren$y's music without permission.
TMZ reports that Curren$y and Dame Dash's DD172 outfit are at odds over claims that Dash is continuing to release the New Orleans native's product after signing with Warner Bros. in January of last year. Spitta released two albums with Dash, both major label firsts, in 2010. Dash and DD172 released Curren$y's sixth studio album Muscle Car Chronicles this past February, which didn't sit well with the rapper or his new label.
Curren$y is asking Dash to stop releasing his product and also seeking $1.5 million in damages. Dash claims he has a right to release the product, saying he was given permission. The beleaguered producer and record executive also stated that Curren$y betrayed him by signing with Warner after pledging allegiance to DD172.
Dame Dash's post-Roc career has been marred by a series of setbacks. After splitting with former biz partners Jay-Z and Kareem “Biggs” Burke, Dash has been in the spotlight for a variety of legal issues including the closing of his DD172 art and performance space in Tribeca and owed back taxes in earlier times. To be fair, DD172 seems to be faring well these days despite the snafus, after Dash took his operation to Asia recently.
